Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA)

The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration was established within the United States Department of Transportation in January of 2000 to help ensure safety and prevent accidents, injuries and deaths caused by or involving commercial trucks.
According to the FMCSA, preliminary results for California's 2008 crash facts indicate that over 3,000 large trucks were involved in injury crashes. A collision between a large commercial truck and a smaller passenger vehicle can be devastating and can result in severe or catastrophic injury and even death.
The FMCSA has found that as of April 2009, almost every major trucking company in the United States was in violation of at least one of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations. Violations of this nature could be very dangerous and could even result in accidents and deaths.
